Hermes's Diary

Girls Love Girls Loves Girls

22 June

Writing this a few hours before I turn 20!! How exciting. This is another rec list bc I seem to never get enough of sharing the things i read. This time it's about GLs, Yuri, whatever you want to call it. I've always been interested in reading romance however its a very easy genre to write really badly, especially straight romances. The way heteronormativity has upheld the culture surrounding romance and its tropes has led me to roll my eyes everytime a girl and a guy lock eyes for longer than a second. I don't think I have it in me to write a rec list for straight romances. Yuri breaks the mold by having much more complex themes and characters that make usually unbearable romance tropes really enjoyable by inserting two female characters. The stakes are higher, the passion is more intimate, the misogyny is lessened! These are the strenghts that make lesbian romances better than their straight counterparts. The mangas listed are all ongoings that I've been reading lately and you should read too!.

"Wanna go out with me then? Might as well" "Sure. Give it a go for a year?"

Gal to Gal no Yuri or #Gal x Gal Yuri is currently 16 chapters and a very cute slice of life romantic comedy! It stars two gyaurs Yua and Reina deciding to date for a year afer no luck dating anyone else. As the year passes they slowly fall in love and decide to keep dating. Words cannot describe how cute this manga is!! I first read the oneshot before it became seriliazed. I love fashion subcultures as a goth myself and gyarus are so cool, so this is a perfect manga. It portrays the girls with their fashion and how it meshes with their personalities. I love the pacing as we look inti their day to day lives in and out of school. One of my first animes was a slice of life so I'm very familiar with the genre, but i wouldn't rec it to people who aren't interesed in sol as it can get tedious, as this manga doesn't have much in stakes or drama. It's just cute high school couple.

"You got crazy excited didn't ya! Your body can't lie, Sachi!"

Sachi to Yuuka is a comedic sexy manga about two roomates who aren't dating but have sex. Its a very horny manga and very silly. I really like the exaggerated facial expressions and the comedy. It manages to really heartfelt about the main couple's feelings and relastionship. So far I've only read about 8 translated chapters but im pretty sure in japanese it has a lot more, so it's a bit short but it's quality makes up for it's quantity. I don't think I know many other stories that are so lax, funny and sexy when depeciting sex like this manga does. Sex is always a bit hard to portray in a way that feels natural or mature, but this manga really hits the nail by knowing when to take it seriously and when to take it comedically. Balance is key.

Love Bullet is an action manga about a girl who dies but comes back as a Cupid, which gives her the responsibility of helping others fall in love with weapons and missions in order to come back to the living. The action is absolutey great in this series, I adore the weapon designs and the fight scenes feel dynamic and punchy. The first arc is incredibly heartfelt, instantly making it one of the best manga of this decade. The characters are adorable, from the rookie Koharu, the the sweet Kanna, the energetic Chiyo and the cool Ena.

The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't A Guy At All is one of the most popular current yuri and its for a good reason! The story follows Aya as she devolps her first crush on a myserious boy working at a records store, and Mitsuki who is actually said aformentioned mysterious boy, and she's a girl. It genuienly is a good slow burn, I love how it explores self expression especially with Mitsuki and her masc clothes and love for music.
